Report from Yemen

Originaly posted on Tuesday, November 07, 2006

The issue of evangelists and Christian missionary in Yemen and in Muslim countries in general is historic.

In Yemen,it is known that they come in the form of humanitarian workers providing assistance, aid, health services to vulnerable communities in deprived parts of the country.

In sana`a,Soqatrah and many other parts of the county try, they are actively working through NGOs.

Recently,we started to see them taking up Arab Muslim names and wear Arab and Yemeni clothes so they can break the psycho;logical barriers with people. Moreover, they learn and speak Arabic with great determination and enthusiasm.

It is very sad to see Muslims not having the same level of enthusiasm and determination to proterect the Truth and Straight Path.

One Yemeni lady in her fifties yesterday spoke to me that she still remembers how a Christian missionary lady gave her a school bag with nice things in it when she was only five years old and how that affected her.

They now provide English classes and IT free in some places in Yemen. Some even started to carry out social research to the depth of the community so they can identify gaps to break in and change people's values, beliefs and tradions.

Regarding Muslims converted to Christianity,I personal heard of a few women who did that in Aden and in Sanas`a,where they attended English classes and then became close friends with the tutors, but later on got scholarships to UK and Canada and as they returned to Yemen, one married an English man,who was not a Muslim and the other one was brought to court to be questioned on her conversion to Christianity.

In Aden, south of Yemen,a group of poor people converted to Christianity through a European NGO who provided health, education, and food aid services for them.

In Soqatra,a British university professor spent 10 years and learnt the local language and culture and set up a centre for education.

An Australian retired man and his wife set up an education centre for young people in Hadibo and have been there for over 10 years.

A British lady stayed in Soqatra on a voluntary basis for five years teaching and training women - with a social engineering agenda-.

So as you can see people are working hard, while our people are lazy and careless. You will realise the extent of the risk and problem when you see it yourself.
